On the Trail

In any election campaign there are a myriad of unforeseen events that can change the course of history. If something one of the candidates says along the way can be all it takes, then an attempted assassination attempt trumps this by some margin.

Trump was already considered a good chance to win given Biden’s debate woes and now he can add surviving an assassination attempt to his newfound narrative.

How is all of this reflected online?

For a search of “trump shooting” there is a news box at the top with links to 7 stories.

Of course the incident already has its own Wikipedia page

As does the shooter

The interesting thing when it comes to Trump is how quick his news cycle is. This week is the Republican National Convention and Trump just selected J.D. Vance as his running mate so news of this is now in his new panel bumping off many of the items related to the shooting.

A month from now, the shooting will be nothing but a footnote.

But as for J.D. Vance, how has his online reputation been impacted by the news that he will be on Trump’s ticket?

Views to his Wikipedia page exploded

And the page has been edited close to 200 times in the last day.

Vance is married to Usha Vance and a Wikipedia page was created for her yesterday and had over half a million views in its first day of business!

Not surprisingly there are a lot of articles asking who exactly she is.

All this is a fascinating insight into how quickly things move. People like Thomas Crooks and Usha Vance can go from anonymous to household names in seconds and Google has to react just as quickly to reflect this
