There are many who don’t think online reputation management is relevant to them.
They say “I’m not a celebrity or someone important and I haven’t been in any trouble so what difference does it make?”
To these people I counter “Do you even know what appears when you’re Googled and if you do, are these results of any concern to you?”
Celebrity or not, people may still Google you
You may be looking for a job
Someone wants to find out more about you before they go on a date with you
A potential customer/client/business partner wants to know more about you and/or your business
GIven this, wouldn’t it be good to have some control and ownership over what the Googler sees?
Or will you stick your head in the sand and let Google determine what appears for a search of you.
And what they see could be less than ideal for a number of reasons
- Information isn’t accurate or up to date
- Someone else with the same name appears
- Reviews say negative things about you and/or your business
This is why online reputation management is important for everyone. And even if none of these issues apply to you, life changes in an instance and you don’t want to scramble to fix your search results in the midst of a crisis.
