Royal Mess Up: Kate and the Cover Up

Good online reputation management just makes the online reflect the offline.

If you’ve been following the news, you’ll know that something very strange has been happening with Princess Kate

Whatever the Royal Family has done to manage her online reputation has badly backfired, thus creating a crisis of their own doing.

There was huge controversy when a photo of Kate and her kids was found to be doctored. This caused sleuths to see if any more royal photos were edited and they found some.

Given all this, how has it affected Princes Kate’s online reputation?

The news carousel is filled with stories connected to the controversy. Just her walking out and about is a big deal.

All of the speculation about her has its own Wikipedia page

Created on March 11, and surviving a nomination to delete it, it has averaged 3,234 pageviews since then.

Much of Search Suggest is devoted to Kate’s health.

And this has resulted in meme after meme after meme.

Whatever the situation is regarding Princess Kate, we can only hope that she is ok.

The internet age has become a godsend for conspiracy theorists who believe that there is a cover up behind everything and when something like this happens when something is clearly amiss, it only fuels it further.

There is a lesson here in crisis management.

It’s always best to be transparent and come clean. It may seem easier to cover things up but once you’re caught, the only path forward is more lies and more cover ups. You simply can’t admit there was a cover up because as everyone knows this is far worse than the crime.

Now that people are on top of this, they are going to be following it closely for clues and the truth will eventually come out. It always does.
